"Love to My Liking: Refrains of Desire in Gothic France"

Like the troubadours in the South, the trouvères of Northern France wrote some of the most captivating vocal music of the 13th-century. In an age long before Spotify, these poet-composers penned the music they wanted to hear and share. Their songs of public and private adoration wove together allusions both sacred and secular– creating mystical and spicy meditations on love and longing. Elena Mullins (soprano) has reconstructed much of this program from medieval manuscripts – bringing new life to an art form with strong oral and improvisatory traditions.

This program will also incorporate medieval dance.

In addition to the full Festival program that includes Alkemie's concert program and is found on this website's opening page, you may also wish to download this program's Texts and Translations here.
